Atea Finland Oy delivers new Fujitsu Siemens Computers production servers to Suomen Lehtiyhtymä

(2007.02.06)  Press Release

(Finland) The Finnish publishing group, Suomen Lehtiyhtymä, has entered into an agreement with Atea regarding delivery of Fujitsu Siemens production servers. (This press release is only translated to English, not distributed to any other lists than Finnish subscribers)

06.02.2007 - Press Release
Suomen Lehtiyhtymä, has purchased a new, more extensive Fujitsu Siemens Computers server cluster from Atea for its editorial, circulation and ad systems. The group has grown quickly through acquisitions, and the capacity of the server cluster acquired two years ago has become too limited. The new system can easily accommodate all functions.

The previous system driven in a two-server fault-tolerant cluster is now complemented by a third, fail-over server that can immediately take over the production in problem situations. For the publisher it is of utmost importance that production is guaranteed, as readers must get their morning papers.

”We wanted double backups in our production environment, but the old servers did not have enough capacity. This was one of the main reasons for renewing the equipment,” says Timo Nieminen, IT Manager at Suomen Lehtiyhtymä.

Consolidation also improves efficiency as management and line costs are reduced. A centralised subscription and reservation database for all the group’s products makes billing and space reservations easier.

The previous server cluster was also from Fujitsu Siemens Computers. This time the IT infrastructure services and solutions provider Atea, who had also built the Citrix system for Lehtiyhtymä, evaluated the current system and the company’s needs to define the specifications for the new system.

”We didn’t seek the cheapest solution but wanted to continue the cooperation that had proven successful,” says Nieminen.

Atea has delivered the new system on a turnkey basis. All installations and configurations are designed to allow applications to be installed directly on the servers.

The Oracle-based cluster solution consists of three PRIMERGY RX300 S3 servers, a FibreCAT SX80 storage system with a storage capacity of 3.4 terabytes, two LAN switches and the PRIMERGY Multipath software, which doubles the Fibre Channel connections to make the overall configuration fault-tolerant.
