Atea joins the Exponential Roadmap Initiative - supporting the 1.5°C Business Playbook

Press release 2020-09-18

Atea takes a step forward in combatting climate change by joining the Exponential Roadmap Initiative, an eco-system of frontline organizations committed to halving emissions by 2030. This move will help the company reach ambitious targets set in its 2030 Vision: a corporate strategy to accelerate action within the IT industry to meaningfully address climate change.

The 1.5°C Business Playbook, the cornerstone of the initiative, helps companies and organizations achieve exponential action on climate change by providing a framework for attaining the goals of the Paris Agreement

The Playbook is supported by 50 front runners in the 1.5°C ambition, including the International Chamber of Commerce—representing more than 45 million companies—along with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, Ericsson, IKEA, Scania, WWF, Skanska, the Potsdam Institute for Climate Research and many other partners and contributors.

Andreas Antonsen, Director of Corporate Responsibility at Atea ASA, explains that as part of Atea’s 2030 Vision, the company is determined to leverage its power to make change happen at a 100:1 ratio: “We want to make our handprint 100 times larger than our carbon footprint. The 1.5°C Business Playbook will help us get there.” Johan Falk, Co-Founder and Head of Exponential Roadmap Initiative, also greeted this news: “We are delighted that Atea are joining the initiative. A company leading from the front, especially in including both customers and the global IT industry in the ambition, we hope that more will follow Atea’s example.”

Atea’s mission is to build a sustainable future with IT. That includes engaging customers in work designed to make sustainability a normative value in the IT industry worldwide. A UN Global Compact signatory and active member of the IT sustainability coalition Responsible Business Alliance, Atea was recently awarded platinum-level recognition by EcoVadis for its sustainability work.
